Start with what you know:
I'm a writer turned copywriter and the founder of this studio of words. I'm convinced that clarity wins every time.
It's ironic that I own an online business, because I'm kinda like the rest of the world: online things make me increasingly tired.
Sure, I love a good reel scroll session, the convenience of Amazon Prime, and all the things... but also all the selling and scrambling is so old by now.
But it's still the marketplace of our day.
And if you have beautiful things to make peoples' lives better, you have to sell them somehow, right? And you want to? But is there a way to do it that doesn't make you feel blah and cringey?
Here's the deal: I started copywriting because I've loved writing all my life and I love creativity and helping people so it seemed like a perfect blend of so many of the things.
So now I've made it my business mission to write copy for other businesses in a way that is non-manipulative, more ethical, more kind. So that the divide between making and selling your art is surmountable.
For me it looks like using accurate words to communicate a story that's real and brings beauty to the world.
I worked with as a teacher's aide in special-ed classrooms, so I was out of a job for I didn't know how long. What did I do?
Seized the opportunity to dive into my life-long love for writing and take a writing mentorship from an author I admired. I spent my days writing reflections, making pizza on Saturdays, talking to my long-distance boyfriend, and brain-storming about how I could use my writing to support myself.
One day, I went for a run, podcast in-ears...
It was a business podcast; an interview with the original copywriter for creatives, Ashlyn Carter. It clicked that day on the neighborhood canal bank: I could do this.
I drafted my first website within the next week.
The skimmable version
Born in California's Central Valley to a family that made a point to use only accurate words
Started writing in a sparkly pink journal my cousin gifted me for the family Christmas
Took writing more seriously than ever and was paid by my very first copywriting client!
It doesn't have to be forced. It CAN become a
genuine part of a larger story.
If you're looking for a one dimensional service, this is not the place for you. I'm all about interacting with our businesses as WHOLE PEOPLE who care about rest and laughter and good food, not just sales and clicks and views. I hope you are too.
