If you’re anything like me, I’m guessing when you’re dreaming about a new era for your brand, or an entirely new business, one of the first things you think of is what it will look like.
And it makes complete sense. Visuals are one of the primary ways we communicate to people, and when we’re dreaming of a beautiful new in-person or online space, we dream of how to make it cozy, or minimalist, or trendy, or bold-patterned, or whatever the thing is that catches our eye and seems to fit. I adore design and home decor, and am always sceming new ways to tweak my house, or what an updated version of Studio Tell would look like.

Only two years after I started my copywriting business, I ran into… a brick wall. Not literally, of course, but the other kind are maybe more terrifying and crippling? My business became strange and scary to me, for reasons that won’t ever see the light of the Internet, most likely. I knew I wanted to keep going, but I wasn’t sure how, and knew it needed to completely change.
One day I was particularly distraught, crying and asking the Lord how on earth I was supposed to move forward. And in a sort of flash I picutured a beautiful marketing Studio, clean and refreshing, built on the concept of ethical and honest communication.
And I pictured it first as something pretty different than how it turned out… more Greek inspired, orange accents (we were so close to 2020, after all) and palm trees and a still-Californian feel.
That’s not how it ended up.
But the heart of it did not change.
Of course it has changed, in ways, evolved and taken slightly different shapes. AI wasn’t around yet. But the words I used to talk about it stayed the same, and they’re what I built the entire rest of the brand around.
They’re what I told my designer.
The big concept for Studio Tell became the foundation I based everything else on.
The words you use to articulate the heart of your brand will become it’s foundation.
If the copy you settle on for your business is strong, you love it, it makes sense, makes you excited? You have a foundation that you can build on, confidently, to turn your business into a welcoming space that you and others love.
If you don’t have copy, or you don’t love it, it doesn’t make sense, or make you excited—that’s why I developed Words of Home. It’s a personalized copy experience that will give you all the words you need for your brand and website. Because your brand will only stand strong if the foundation is true. 🫶🏼
